چکیده

The livers of rats were fixed by perfusion with glutaraldehyde, treated with the revised tannin-osmium method of MURAKAMI (1974), freeze-cracked by the method of TOKUNAGA et al. (1974), critical point dried and vacuum-evaporated with a thin metal layer. The endothelial cells and Kupffer cells of liver sinusoids were examined under the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The endothelial cells lining the sinusoids showed numerous intracellular openings

Mechanisms of interleukin-2-induced hepatic toxicity.

Interleukin 2 (IL-2) mediates the regression of metastatic cancer, but its clinical use is limited by associated toxicities including hepatic dysfunction. To determine the mechanism for IL-2-induced hepatic dysfunction, we hypothesized that IL-2 activation of Kupffer cells causes leukocyte-endothelial adhesion and decreases hepatic sinusoidal blood flow. C57BL/6 mice were given injections of la...

The appearance of transition forms between monocytes and Kupffer cells in the liver of rats treated with glucan. A cytochemical and ultrastructural study

A massive accumulation of mononuclear phagocytes in the rat liver was found after the injection of glucan, a beta-1,3-polyglucose. Portal vessels and central veins contained large numbers of rounded and elongated cells which were adherent to the endothelium. By scanning electron microscopy most of these cells exhibited prominent lemellopodia, raised ridge-like profiles and blebs, the typical fe...

MONONUCLEAR PHAGOCYTES (KUPFFER CELLS) AND ENDOTHELIAL CELLS Identification of Two Functional Cell Types in Rat Liver Sinusoids by Endogenous Peroxidase Activity

The fine structural characteristics and phagocytic properties of peroxidase-positive and peroxidase-negative cells in rat hepatic sinusoids were investigated . Cells with a positive peroxidase reaction in the endoplasmic reticulum and the nuclear envelope make up approximately 407, of cells in rat hepatic sinusoids and have abundant cytoplasm containing numerous granules and vacuoles, and occas...

Kupffer cell structure in the juvenile Nile crocodile, Crocodylus niloticus.

The morphology of Kupffer cells was examined in the liver of the juvenile Nile crocodile using light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Pleomorphic Kupffer cells were located in the sinusoids, in the space of Disse, in the hepatic parenchyma and often connected adjacent sinusoids. The cell surfaces were irregular due to the presence of filopodia and lamelliapodia with phagocytosis...

Involvement of Kupffer cells in the interaction between neutrophils and sinusoidal endothelial cells in rats. Shock 18(2):152-157, 2002.

During endotoxic liver injury, large numbers of neutrophils infiltrate the liver, and serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) become elevated. The object of this study was to assess the roles of TNF-alpha secreted by Kupffer cells in the interaction between neutrophils and sinusoidal endothelial cells (SECs). Rat neutrophils were perfused onto SECs that were stimulated with eith...
